Don't Worry, Be Happy
Go through life: Mork's style
01-01-1999

I recently got into trouble with my Philosophy teacher for having made too much of humour in a piece of work I gave in.

I had come to the conclusion that laughter and humour were the only way to look at things without getting too depressed, which is a state most people like to avoid, as far as I can tell. This was however a slightly too radical view in my teacher's opinion and to be honest, I can understand his reaction.

However, I believe that laughter has many great assets. For a start, it is the only international language: everybody laughs, from New York to Peking, from the North to the South Pole (even penguins). Even animals laugh: everybody's heard of the Laughing Hyena.

But that's not all: laughter is also the best anaesthetic around. To me, laughter is the KY Jelly in the Sodomy of Life; it is like a glass of water which allows you to swallow a pill.

I always laugh when something comes up, to such an extent that some people probably find it annoying: it's like that and that's the way it is, there is nothing I can do about it.

In my opinion, the best thing to laugh about is Death: you can't avoid it; fearing it will just paralyse you; going to meet it is a real waste of time and money, and you always leave a stain on the floor.

So just laugh at it!
